Chapter One
Mark and Glenn watched as Paul Bearer, their manager.
Rant and raved over some new storyline Vince McMahon and thrown at him. They were trying to calm him down. Over the last week
and a half, he had been complaining about indigestion and chest pains. Mark had walked over to put his hands on his shoulders
to get him to stop yelling, when Paul grasped his chest with a weird look on his face, unable to breathe or speak.
Glenn
ran for the doctor, while Mark eased him down to the floor, telling him everything would be alright. Moments later, Glenn
came back with the doctor accompanied by two EMT's. They began to work on Paul. Mark and Glenn looked at each other worried,
as other wrestlers came to see what was going on.
Finally, hearing something was going on backstage, Vince arrived
in time to see Paul being wheeled out on a gurney and lifted up into the ambulance, with Glenn at his side. Mark told him
he would be on in a minute, after he took care of some business. Turning to Vince, looking down on him as he towered over
him, causing the man to take a big gulp.
"Pray that he is alright." He said with a snarl. "Because if he isn't. He
won't be the only one needing a hospital bed." Without allowing him to say a word. Mark jumped on his Harley and followed
the ambulance. Vince stood there with that stupid expression on his face.
They drove up to the emergency entrance,
the doctors and nurses were waiting for his arrival. They had been called ahead of time. They wheeled him into the hospital
hooking him up to a heart monitor, I.V. and all sorts of wires.
They began to examin him, as Mark and Glenn went to
the waiting room. Some of the other wrestlers had arrived, Mick Foley for one, to see how Paul was doing. They waited, hoping
he would be alright. Mick came over to be with his friends, as they sat and stared at each other. And then off into their
own little thoughts. Concerned for their long time manager/friend. Linda and Stephanie came and sat with the three. Vince
felt his presence at this time would not be appropriate.
The doctor in charge came to give them the news. He had a
small heart attack. He would need to be in the hospital for a while as they stabilized his heart. He would need to be stress-free
and some rest. He was going to need to take some time off from work, after his release. Glenn and Mark wanted to go see him.
The doctor told them it would be alright, but he had been sedated and would soon be knocked out. They didn't care, they just
wanted to see him. And as expected, he was groggy.
After spending a few moments with him and seeing him sleeping comfortably.
They went to the others, letting them know he indeed was going to be alright. They all sighed with relief and left.
The
next day they transferred him to the Cardiac Care Unit. Mark and Glenn were there first thing the next morning. The doctor
explained to them after he was stabilized for several days he would be sent to another floor, to a private room.
Mark
and Glenn told him they would be back in two weeks to see him, as they had to catch up with the federation, and would be on
the road. Mark told the doctor how Glenn and he could be reached, if there were any changes. The doctor told them he would
notify them immediately if anything changed. They told Paul they would be thinking of him and left. A week later, Paul was
transferred to the Medical floor.
Chapter Two
Jeanine woke from her alarm clock going off. She had just come
back from her vacation in Hawaii. It was well overdue. She hadn't been on one for sometime, due to the new position she had
taken nine months ago. She was going to take it, when she was asked to fill in the position vacated by the previous person
because of illness. So she put her vacation on hold to get everything straighten out, before she left. This would be the first
day back after two weeks. And boy, she wasn't ready to go back.
When she finally made it to work. She popped into
the office of her close friend's, Sharon. She told her she would see her at lunch and tell her all about her trip. She preceded
to her office, and began to look over the paper work in front of her.
Why do you go on vacation only to have to come
back and make up for the time you were away? She thought. Oh-h-h-h! She groaned. She was interrupted by a phone call. She
sighed after taking the call and hanging up. Why me? She thought. First day back to work and they throw all this at her. She
left out of her office as she enter Station C/D.
The Medical floor, where she was Head Nurse. Jeanine talked to
her Charge Nurses. To explain to them they will be getting a new patient. High Priority, some type of celebrity. She didn't
know him. But he was to be treated as well as any of the other patients on this unit.
She sent her Charge Nurses to
talk to their Lvn's and CNA's. She was looking over the chart of the new patient, when she heard all this commotion coming
down the hall. She looked to see reporters, cameramen and a bunch of people following. Two Orderlies were wheeling a man,
trying to get him to her unit. But the people were in the way. She could see from the man's face he was very frustrated at
the hold ordeal. As they made it to her, she beckoned to the room he would be in. And after he was safely in his room. She
had enough. This was a medical floor and not a three ring circus.
"Okay. Everyone who aren't here visiting someone.
I'm asking you to leave. Now! If you don't, I will call security. And understand this, folks. I will not repeat myself." And
as she began to escort them out . They left reluctantly, mumbling and grumbling. Paul was being put to bed, by the two
Orderlies. When he heard the sweetest voice commanding the crowd. He wonder who she could be. He didn't have to wait long.
Jeanine walked into the room to see how her newest patient was doing, as the two Orderlies left.
She liked to introduce
herself and assess the patient at the same time. Paul was taken in by the little creature coming into his room. She was no
taller than 5' 2". Short brown curly hair. No make-up, but she didn't need it, with her soft tanned skin. She was medium built.
She wore a black long-sleeved blouse with a brown loose skirt, that came to her calves. And the traditional white nurse's
shoes. Over her clothes, she wore a white lab jacket.
"Hello, Mr. Bearer. My name is Jeanine Sims. I'm the Head Nurse
on this unit. Whatever you may need I will help you as much as possible. Any complaints see my Charge Nurse."
She
introduced the nurse who had just walked in. "If she can't help you then see me. You will be with us for a while. We are hoping
when you leave, we will not see you in here again." This was one of her jokes she loved to spring on the patient. She stood
there for a moment longer to see if he had anything he needed.
All Paul could do was stare at the nurse in front of
him. She then began to check his equipment and speak to the Charge Nurse and attendant who had come into the room. As she
began to walk out the room with the Charge Nurse, Paul pulled himself together.
"Will you be here the rest of the
day?" As he continued to stare at the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. "Yes. I will. If you need anything. Sam,
will be more than willing to see to your needs." She pointed to the Attendant, as she walked out the door, going about her
duties.
"Sam is your name, she said." Paul addressed the Attendant.
"Yes, Mr. Bearer." He answered as he fiddle/faddle
about the room.
"She's very efficient. Isn't she?" Paul mostly thinking out loud.
"Who, sir?" Sam asked, confused.
"Oh-h-h! No one." Paul was moonstruck. He closed his eyes thinking of Jeanine.
Chapter Three
Paul was
coming along as expected. It was all they could do to keep his blood pressure stabilized. He wasn't a very calm person. He
complained about everything. The food didn't taste right, he wasn't getting the best of care, and there wasn't anything on
TV worth watching, but his wrestling.
He had sent many nurses running and crying from his room, due to his insults.
The men attendants refused to work with him, in fear of their jobs for what they may do to him. The one person who was able
to deal with him, was Jeanine. The only time he was decent is when she was in the room. But this was slowly taking its toll
on her. With all her duties she had to do on her unit.
Jeanine had just finish dealing with another crisis. Complaints
from a patient's family members. She finally had a chance to sit down and catch her breath. As she sat relaxing behind the
desk, she was over shadowed. Looking up to see what could cause this sudden darkness, she was stunned speechless. Before her
stood two of the most immense men she had ever, ever seen. 'Oh my God'. She thought.
"Hello. We're looking for Mr.
Paul Bearer's room." Mark looking down at the small woman standing petrified behind the desk. Glenn turned his head away,
trying to hold back a laugh that was itching to escape, as he watched the expression on the nurse's face. Without saying a
word, Jeanine pointed to Paul's room.
The two men looked in the direction she pointed, then gave the nurse one more
look, and with a nod of their heads started towards his room.
"Those men were larger than life." As she sat down in
her seat trying to regain her composure, when she heard this loud screeching voice she couldn't mistake. Paul was hurling
insults at one of the nurses.
"Damn! Why now? Its just like having a child." She didn't want to have to go in the
room with the two men in there.
"Ms. Sims! You need to come in here." The nurse hollered to her from the doorway.
"Just like having a child." She muttered as she slowly made her way to the dreaded room. She dismissed the nurse,
telling her she would attend to Mr. Bearer. As she walked into the room. Glenn and Mark were trying to calm Paul down.
"Paul
man. You need to calm yourself down." Mark said, as he and Glenn were still standing at his bedside.
"Yea. And you
shouldn't be hollering at the nurses, either." Glenn was a little irritated at Paul's actions. Neither men had heard or
seen the little figure that had entered the room until she spoke, causing all heads to turn with a jerk.
"Mr. Bearer.
I think its time you listen to your friends. I have tried to make everything accommodating. But no matter what, its not enough.
My male nurses refused to come in here. And the females will only come in here with me nearby. I have a unit to run. That
means many things to do. So you tell me. What am I going to do outside of sedating you?" She had enough.
Paul recognized
that tone of voice from the first day he was here. He remember how she sent the crowd of people away. He now realized, he
had danced on her last nerve.
Mark and Glenn looked at each other, then to Paul, and finally to the brave little nurse
standing before them, as they embrace themselves for the explosion to come. But Paul, just looked down at his clasp hands,
twiggling his fingers. And with a soft voice spoke to Jeanine.
"You are the best nurse here. They don't understand
me like you do. You are always polite and gentle. And if I cause you any hardship. Please except my deepest apology." As he
spoke he looked up at her in intervals. He was trying his best to smooth things over with her. Mark and Glenn sat in their
seats, with their lower jaws almost dropping to the floor, and their eyes wide opened.
"Mr. Bearer. I am the Head
Nurse here. I have a total of sixty patients, not to mention a group of nurses to oversee. I can't stand here everyday and
all day with you. I wish I could, but I CAN'T. " She walked over to his bed. Putting her hand on his, gave it a gentle squeeze,
and said in a very soothing voice.
"If you really want to make me happy. I want you well and out of here. That's my
job. I want you to stay well. You need to work on that temperament. I would hate to hear, somewhere down the road. You had
to go back in the hospital for the same reason." She began to look in his eyes, hard.
"Paul listen to me. You may
not make it next time. This is very serious. These outbursts have to stop. You have so many people who care for you. Will
you do it for them? Will you do it for me? And most of all for yourself?" She watched him as he thought. And looking into
her eyes, he nodded his head. She gave his hand another squeeze and smiled at him. This brought a blush to his cheeks, as
they turned a rose red. Mark and Glenn shifted their feet and stared at each other wondering what the hell is going on with
Paul. She turned and left the room.
"Paul what was that?" Glenn asked as Mark continue to stare.
"She's so
nice. And pretty too. Did you hear how she talked to me? Telling me to take care of myself. She doesn't want anything to happen
to me. And the way she said "Do this for me?". Paul drifting off to his own little world.
"PAUL! She was only doing
her job. Don't go off the deep end." Glenn was trying to snap him back to reality. Then all men turned to look towards the
door as they heard voices coming from without.
"I have had this talk with you too many times. I will not tolerate
it any longer. Either you do as I have instructed you or you can consider seeking employment elsewhere." The man turned and
walked away, leaving Jeanine in tears. Her nurses came to her side to comfort her. They loved her dearly. She had been the
best thing to happen to this unit.
"Ms. Sims don't let that pompous wind bag get to you. He knows you could have his
job anytime. He's trying to run you away." The nurse said as she held her. "You're not thinking of leaving are you Ms.
Sims?" One of the attendants asked concerned with losing their Head Nurse.
"I don't know. I can't take this any longer.
I have been at this hospital for many years, on this unit for nine months and have enjoyed every minute, until he came along
two month ago. I'll give this position up, this isn't worth it." She was still sniffing, as they walked her away to the nurse's
lounge. They looked at each other hoping by some miracle there was something that could stop this man from running Jeanine
away. Little did they know, the miracle was just a few feet away.
Chapter Four
"How could he talk to such a beautiful woman
like that. If I wasn't in this, bed I would give him something to think about.' His voice was beginning to screech. Mark and
Glenn knew what that meant.
"You heard those people out there with her. They like her. I hear them talk all the time
about how she came in and change things around for the best. Why did I have to be in this bed. I want to go to her and comfort
her." Mark and Glenn quieted Paul and gave each other a look.
Mark told Paul he would be back in a minute. Jeanine
was sitting in the lounge along trying to pull herself together.
"We have a boss like yours." She jumped at the sound
of the deep low voice. She hadn't heard him come into the room. "He's the reason Paul's in here now."
"Really? What
did he do to upset him so much?" She asked trying to hide the fact she was intimidated by his size.
"You know we're
wrestlers, right?" She nodded as Mark continued. "Well, it works like this. We have storylines we work with while we wrestle.
Now Glenn, the other guy here seeing Paul, is my long lost brother. And Paul is his father, but not my father. Still following
me? Okay, we have the same mother. We hate each other. He's Kane and I'm the Undertaker. Understand?" She shrugged her shoulders,
no wonder Paul had an heart attack. This was complex.
"The Undertaker? What is that?" She was shaking her head. "I
don't look at wrestling. Please don't take offence. I just don't have time to watch any TV. But, what you're describing to
me is making my head swim. And you actually went through with this? I can see why Paul was upset."
"There's more,
but we don't need to go into that." Good he had taken her mind of her worries. "This man you were talking to outside Paul's
door. Who was he?" He was sitting beside her seeing she had become more comfortable with him.
"Ohhh! He's my supervisor.
As you can see he doesn't like me for some reason.
I'm sorry. I shouldn't say that." She knew it wasn't ethical to
speak bad of co-worker's to families or friends of patients.
"Don't worry Jeanine. May I call you Jeanine?" He said
putting an reassuring hand on her shoulder. "What's his name and does he have an office? I need to talk to him of something
important.
"His name is Mr. Kingsley. And his office is down the hall to your right." She had left the lounge to direct
him. He thanked her and went towards the office. She looked at him thinking, what a striking man once you took a good look.
And those green eyes, magnetic. Oh well. Enough fantasizing.
Jeanine sat at the nurse's station doing her paperwork.
It had been several minutes since her talk with Mark. An eclipse pass over the station, as she looked up to see Mark heading
for Paul's room.
A few minutes later she was stopped from her work with the sound of running feet, as she glanced
to see Mr. Kingsley approaching and passing the station headed for the elevators. His face was as white as an ghost's. And
his eyes were to pop out anymore, they would have to pick them up off the floor.
She wondered what was wrong with
him. She went back to her seat. An half hour later her was summoned to the Director of Nurses' office. 'Now what?' she thought.
Mark entered the room giving Glenn a look Paul never saw. He was sad for Jeanine, who he couldn't help. They were
trying to cheer Paul, when a commotion was heard coming from outside in the hallway.
Chapter Five
"I wonder
what's all that noise. Mark go see for me?" Paul was concerned for Jeanine. Mark and Glenn pretty much had an idea, but they
didn't want Paul to find out. Mark peeked out the door, seeing Jeanine smiling so beautifully and her co-worker's jumping
for joy.
In all the excitement, she noticed Mark staring with a knowing smile. She excused herself and came towards
the room, as Mark backed in allowing her to pass.
"I wanted you to know Paul, I will no longer be the Charge Nurse
on this unit. Effective immediately." Paul gasped in disbelief. How could they fire such a good nurse. He knew it had to be
that scoundrel's doings.
'There will be a new nurse starting tomorrow. She is very good and I'm proud to have her
taking my place".
"No! No! No! They can't do this to you. I'll have their hinds. You wait until I get out of this
hospital." Paul was screaming to the top of his voice. Jeanine ran to him, putting her hand on his, rubbing it gently. Paul
quieted, with her touch and soothing voice.
"Paul. They made me the new Supervisor. For some reason, Mr. Grisley up
and quit. He said something about life and death situation." Paul gazed at her so lovingly. Happy to have her touching him.
Mark and Glenn could see, Paul had a crush on this nurse. And it doesn't appear to be going away to soon. And they were curious
about her motives. Seeing as how she kept holding his hand whenever he was upset and calling him Paul.
The wonder
if subconsciously, she may have feelings for him. It was getting late. Mark and Glenn said goodnight to Paul. They told him
they would be back in the morning. He was due to be released in a couple of days.
"I think he really likes that nurse."
Glenn said as he drove them to their hotel. "Yeah! And judging by the way she was trying to console him. I would bet she
has feelings for him. I think we should do something for those two. What do you think?" Mark asked.
"Like you did
with the supervisor?" He turned to look at Mark giving a crooked grin.
"I was very reasonable. I asked him to lay
off the nurse. But the way he said something I didn't like. Let me know he wasn't going to stop until she was gone. I just
informed him he had an life and death decision to make. His life if he left or his death if he stayed. Then I gave him my
Undertaker eyes rolled back in my head and a fierce growl. Ha! Ha! Ha!" Mark laughed and Glenn joined him. They began to make
their plans.
Chapter Six
Jeanine made it home, tired from her first week as Supervisor. She went into her
room to take a long shower, when there came a knock at the door.
"Yes? Who is it?" She said as she approached the
door.
"I have some flowers Ma'am!" The voice from the other side answered. She peeked through the peephole and
indeed, a delivery boy with a box of flowers in his arms. She opened the door, taking the flowers, after giving him a tip.
Went over to the table to see who had sent the flowers. There was a note:
Always thinking of you Your secret admirer
She
couldn't figure out who would be sending her flowers. She didn't feel anyone would be that interested in her, because she
didn't feel attractive enough. She stood 5'3".
Not fat, but far from skinny. Her hair was short-cut and black, with
gray highlighting the temples. She was middle-aged. She thought if she had a redeeming quality. It would have to be her eyes.
She was always getting complimented on her eyes. They were big beautiful brown eyes. And considered by some as, bedroom eyes
or hungry eyes. She was very modest and would thank them and go away blushing.
She moved to L.A. ten years ago with
an job offer. Not having any family, it was a no contest move. She lived by the shoreside. She enjoyed the walks on the beach
at night and feeling the sand under her feet. The moon light was so mystical, as it sat on the ocean in the distance. She
was smelling the long-stem roses, when the phone rung.
"Hello!" She answered.
"Hi! Miss Sims? I know you may
not remember me. But, my name is Mark. I was one of the men who came to visit Paul in the hospital." He explained.
"Oh,
yes! I remember. Very tall and overwhelming, I must say." She thought it odd he have her number. "May I ask. How did you get
my number?"
"I looked it up in the phone book. You're unlisted. So I had to do it another way. I hope you don't mind."
She never commented. He continued. "I have been thinking about the little conversation we had and wondered if you would like
to go out to dinner with me, sometime? I won't push it. But I will inform you. I'm not accustom to the word, NO! " He ended
the phone call.
Mark was being very honest. And how well did she find out. Over the next few weeks, she was constantly
receiving flowers, every Tuesday faithfully. And Mark phoned her, asking her to go out with him. Finally, she gave in to him.
Figuring if she would go out once, he would let it go. She said yes on one condition. They would go in separate cars and leave
the same way. And meet in a crowded restaurant.
Afterwards. he would leave her alone. He agreed to the first two.
And turned down the last.
'Relentless', she thought!
Chapter Seven
Jeanine was nervous most of the day. Hardly
able to keep her mind on work. She didn't know much about this man. She did know he was an wrestler called, THE UNDERTAKER/
MARK.
She decided to do some research of her own. She asked some of the men around the hospital, who she heard talking
about wrestling. To tell her about the Undertaker/ Mark. Boy did she get an earful, they were telling her about the baddest
wrestler in the WWF. He was known as the Lord of Darkness. Something called the Ministry followed him. They also told her
he was hurt. He and Paul Bearer weren't there at this time.
She was a little concerned with the news Paul Bearer was
not active in wrestling. She hoped everything was alright. She would ask Mark about him when they go on their date on Friday
night. She could see now why Mark had so much time on his hands. They told her she could rent some videos of him at the video
rentals.
On her way home she stop by the video store to rent some videos of Mark. She never had watched wrestling
before, so this would make for a relaxing evening. She watched as the wrestlers did their thing. Then the lights went out
in the arena, a bell tolled could be heard. Then music began to play, the crowd went wild, as a figure dressed in black with
a long cape made his way down to the ring. It was Mark/ the Undertaker.
She watched him make his way to ringside,
coming to the steps, pausing to raise his arms above his head, bringing up the lights. He stepped into the ring removed his
cape and handed it to Paul, who left out of the ring.
Paul! She hadn't expected to see him. She watched Mark wrestle,
moving so gracefully, for a man of his size. Her mouth flew opened when he climbed on the top rope with his opponents hand
in his, walked the rope, before coming down on his opponent with his fist. She couldn't believe how he moved in the ring,
like a panther, stalking its prey.
Every once in a while she would get a glimpse of Paul running on the outside, shouting
something. He made her laugh. She didn't know he played a villain so well. The Paul she knew was so sweet. She turned off
the TV, satisfied. She was about to turned in for the night, when the phone rung. "I wanted to say goodnight to you. And
can't wait to see you Friday night." Mark on the other end. In a deep soft sensual voice. As if he was lying in bed and she
was lying next to him.
"I hoped you enjoyed seeing me in my Lord of Darkness persona." Her mouth flew opened. How
did he know that? She thought to herself.
"Oh! It's not what you think. I happened to be coming to see you at the
hospital, I couldn't wait until Friday. You were already leaving when I followed you to the video store. I just guessed you
rented some videos of me." She was beginning to feel a little uneasy with this man. She felt it was him sending her the flowers,
but didn't want to mention them to him until he said something. Just to be safe, if it wasn't him sending them.
"Jeanine,
listen. I'm not going to do anything to hurt you. Never! I have only good plans in stored for you. If you let me." She hadn't
said much during the time he was talking.
Up until a few weeks ago, she had a simple routine. Since the day Paul came
to her unit, everything has changed. A new job, someone sending her flowers faithfully on Tuesdays, and being stalked by a
wrestling Superstar.
"Okay Mark. Now you listen. I better not regret this, or you will know what hell if like. Goodnight
Mark. See you on Friday." She hung the phone up.
Mark laid, thinking how sexy she sounded on the phone. He wondered
why there wasn't a man in her life. He wanted to know everything about her, he didn't want any surprises. He made a phone
call.
"I need you to find everything you can about Jeanine Sims. I want to know everything." He hung up. He was becoming
obsessed with this woman. Jeanine laid in her bed, letting the sound of his voice play over and over in her head. She
hoped she would be able to withstand his advances. She knew she was very vulnerable, considering the things that happened
in her life.
Until now, she had turned off on being with someone. It had been five long years since she was last with
a man. For some reason Paul came through her mind. She began to smile and drifted off to sleep.
Chapter Eight
The
day of the date with Mark finally arrived. She left work early not being able to do anything anyways. She had confided in
her best friend Sharon. They were to meet up at her house. Sharon came along to keep Jeanine calmed. Sharon was Jeanine's
voice of reasoning. They had become close friends instantly years ago when Jeanine first moved there, without family or friends.
"Okay Jeanine! Get a grip. You're crash before he gets here." Sharon wasn't a person who had a lot to say. She was
straight to the point. She watched Jeanine run around like a chicken with her head cut off. The phone rung. She went to answer
it, shaking her head at her friend.
"I'll get it!" She called to her flustered friend.
"Yes?" She asked as
she watch Jeanine run pass.
"Hi! Is Jeanine there?" Sharon perked up from the low deep voice with it's southern drawl,
coming through the phone.
"Yes she is! May I tell her who is calling?" She knew who it was, she wanted to hear his
voice one more time.
"Yes! This is Mark!"
"Jeanine! Mark's on the phone." She hollered, as Jeanine suddenly
appeared in front of her. Sharon was mouthing something to Jeanine, about how sexy he sounded and something about you go girl,
when Jeanine snatched the phone from her giving her a look. Sharon just walked away laughing softly.
"Hello Mark!
Are you calling to call off the date?" She was hoping, her nerves couldn't take much more of this.
"No! You don't
get rid of me that easily. I was wondering if I could catch a ride. Mine kinda fluttered on me and I had to put it in the
shop. It won't be ready until Monday." He was hoping she wouldn't cancel the date. He had found out the information on her
he wanted, more than ever he wanted to be with her.
"I guess! Okay! Knowing you, canceling tonight will only postpone
it for another night. Tell me where to come and get you." She was right. He was going to hold her to the date, whether it
was tonight or some other night. She felt she just wanted this night to end. He told her where to come. Saying her goodnights
to Sharon, promising to call with a full report of the date. She left to go pick Mark up.
Chapter Nine
When
she drove up to the upscale hotel, Mark was out front waiting. He looked very nice, she thought. He had own a black T-shirt,
tucked in blue jeans. He wore black biker boots. His auburn hair hung loose, off his shoulders. As she was giving him
the once over, he was checking out her attire. He thought she was very attracted. She elected to wear a white long-sleeved
rayon blouse, buttoned down the front. The first two buttons were left unbuttoned, and blue jeans, black pumps.
"You
look, NICE!!" He entered the car.
"DITTO!" Was all she was able to muster up. He told her where to go. A nice little
bar/restaurant, with lots of people and food.
She knew about the place, drove on while he continued to talk trying
to loosen her up. They pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant/ bar. Before she knew it, he had jumped out of the car
and ran to her side, opening the door. She stepped out string at him not quite sure what was his angle. He led her in, with
his arms around her shoulders. She thought how nice it felt.
They were shown to a table and orders taken. They talked
and listened to the music. She was enjoying his company. He was polite, funny, and very attentive to her. Something she hadn't
had from anyone. Except Paul.
After they had finished their meal, he asked her if she would like a drink. She explained
she had never drunk before. He told her one wouldn't hurt. She decided what would it hurt to drank one, she ordered a Long
Island Iced Tea.
She commented on how nice it tasted. He sat back in is chair, legs crossed at the ankles, arms folded
across his chest and watched her get plastered on one drink. He helped her to the car. Seated her in on the passenger's side.
And drove to his hotel room.
He carried her up to his room. Laid her on the bed. Stripped her down to her undies,
putting one of his T-shirts on her. Mark stared down at her, thinking how lovely she looked lying there, as her breast moved
up and down with every breath. They were large and rounded.
He didn't know if he was able to resist her any longer.
Now he could see how Paul had fallen in love with her. The man who had hurt her was an fool. He wouldn't make that same mistake.
He covered her with the blanket, he lied down next to her on top of the blanket and watched her sleep. He soon found himself
drifting off to sleep.
Chapter Ten
It had been a few months since Paul left the hospital. A lot had
changed in that time, except his love for Jeanine. It was stronger than ever. He had faithfully sent her a dozen long stemmed
roses every week for the last few months.
He had went on a diet and was losing weight at an safe pace. This was going
to be a surprise to Jeanine when he ask her out in a couple of months. By then he had hoped to be down to his idea weight.
Since his illness, he had tried to return to the WWF with the angle he didn't want to do and then decided to take
some time off. Mark and him had parted their ways during that time over a disagreement.
Mark had left for surgery he
had needed for some time now. Glen was the only active one in the WWF at this time. Paul had been to the hospital and watched
Jeanine leaving, hardly able to wait until he see her again, wanting to hold her close.
One day while he was waiting
for her. He watched as Mark walked up to her and kissed her. Paul was heartbroken. Mark knew what he felt for this woman and
yet he went after her. Mark has letting this 'Lord of Darkness' thing go to his head. He needed to talk to Glenn, to see had
he heard from Mark. And to let him know what was going on. He left.
That night was a RAW taping. He made his way to
Glenn's dressing room and knocked.
"Come in." A familiar voice coming from the other side. Paul opened the door and
entered the room, seeing Glenn sitting in a lounging chair dressed in his costume waiting his turn to wrestle. Looking up
to see an old friend, he hadn't seen in awhile, Genn went over to give him an hug.
"Paul! How have you been? WOW! You
are looking good. How much have you lost?" Glenn was checking out how much weight his dear friend had lost.
"Nearly
an hundred." He answered, glad their friendship was still intact. He played Glenn's father, but in truth he felt that close.
"Well,
I'm proud of you, not so much for looks but health wise. You don't know how much I've worried about you." He was so happy
for his friend. Paul felt good, if he could get this much response from Glenn, what would he get from Jeanine.
"Glenn!
When was the last time you heard from Mark?" He eased into it matter of factly.
"Let's see. Not since his surgery.
I called to see how he was doing. He sounded great!" Glenn was doing something with his mask, never saw the expression on
Paul's face, when he mentioned doing great.
"Are you two still out with each other, over that stupid disagreement?"
He turned to Paul.
"No! I let it go the same day. 'But, evidently he didn't', thought Paul to himself.
"Paul
what's going on? I know something is wrong. What has Mark done now?" Yes Glenn knew Paul to well for him to lie to him, so
he told him about the feelings he had for Jeanine, Glenn acknowledged him and Mark knew even to the point of trying to get
them together.
"Well he's with her now!" Paul said sadly.
Chapter Eleven
"What do you mean he's with
her now?" Glen was confused. He wasn't sure he had heard right.
"He's with her now. I saw them kiss, when I went to
see her coming of work one day." Paul's voice was slowly beginning to whine.
"No, Paul! He wouldn't do that! Would
he?" Glen was now getting angry. How could he hurt the man who has been like a father to them both for through out the years?
"And you actually saw them kissing?"
"Well he bend down to kiss her and she turned her head, giving him her cheek.
But you could see, he definitely wanted more." Paul sat down clasping his hands together twiggling his thumbs, with his head
bent downwards.
Glen thought, her turning her head was a good sign. She wasn't interested in nothing but friendship.
He had to figure out a way, to find out what was truly going on without the knowledge of either Paul or Mark.
If Mark
is indeed going after Jeanine, then he will be ruining a good friendship. Even if they're angry with each, they have made
up in the past with worst fights then this one.
"Paul are you going to be around for a while?" Glen wanted know his
whereabouts when he starts his investigation.
"I'm going back home tonight. Vince wants me to think about coming back.
I told him I would give it a thought." Paul's voice showed the pain he felt inside.
"Paul that's great! It would be
good to have you back. And look! Remember all the advice you have given me over the years. Stick to the game plan. And Paul,
you know how much you love her. That should keep you going. Right?" Paul began to smile at his friends encouraging words.
He was feeling much better.
"You're right. I want her in my life and I don't plan to go down without a fight. Even
if it's with the 'Deadman'," Paul was standing and his voice was beginning to screech some. Glen was glad he had perked up
some. Now if he could get him to continue with his plans.
"Good for you, Paul! But, are you at least going to stay
for my match?" Glen asked.
"Of course. I have to see my 'Boy' wrestle." They laughed. Glen was called for his match.
Paul watched on a monitor as Kane won his match against X-Pac.
The next day, Glen decided what he was going to do about
this situation. He wanted to bring his friends back together. And he wanted to give Paul the chance with the woman he loved.
He had time coming up in a week and planned on paying Mark a visit.
He had heard Mark had thought about coming back
a month ago, but had to have another surgery. Due to a different injury he sustained during workout. It wouldn't look strange
for him to go see him while he was convalescing. And unless Jeanine had quit her job, he doubted she was with him in Houston.
Now to follow through with his plan.
Chapter Twelve
Glen was partly right. No, Jeanine didn't quit her job to be with
Mark. Yes, Mark did have surgery. But at the same hospital Jeanine worked and went to convalesce at her home, by her request.
To
Mark's surprise, Sharon had moved in with Jeanine a couple of weeks earlier. This didn't sit well with him.
Jeanine
and Sharon had planned on living together for some time now. It was Sharon who was reluctant to giving up her apartment. Jeanine
felt she was just too independent, but with Jeanine's constant nagging, she finally caved in. Jeanine could be relentless
too. And Mark will soon learn a lesson about friendship.
On the night Mark and Jeanine had their date. She woke in
his bed, with her clothes off, clad in only his T-Shirt. She was angry and a little embarrassed he had removed her clothing.
She quickly put her clothes on and was leaving, when he stopped her, explaining nothing happened. He told her how
he hadn't wanted to take her home and felt it would be alright for her to stay with him considering the condition she was
in. He apologized for taking her clothes of. He looked so sincere, like a child pleading for forgiveness.
After making
him promise nothing like tonight would ever happen again, she settled down. They went out to breakfast and began a new friendship.
And remained that way over the next several months. But, Mark wanted more. She wouldn't.
Glen discovered where Mark
was and grew angrier by the minute as he made is way to Jeanine's house. He had called Mark's house, leaving a message he
wanted to see him soon.
Mark returned the call, inviting him to come. He couldn't wait to chew his butt out. How could
he had done this to Paul? Glen never informed Paul, that Mark was living with Jeanine. Finally arriving a the house, he knocked
on the door. Mark answered.
"Hey man! How have you been?" Mark hugged his friend. Glen forced himself to return the
hug, he was still angry.
"Everything is fine. And I can see you are doing well, too." Glen answered with a tint of
sarcasm in is voice. Mark noticed it.
"What's going on, Glen?" Mark a little confused. He could see Glen wanted to
talk to him about something.
"Mark! Paul came to see me. He is still talking about Jeanine and his plans to see her
in a month or so. He has trimmed down considerably, just for her. What if he finds out you are living here with her? He even
asked about how you were doing. He didn't like the argument you had and didn't let it affect your friendship. Did you?" Glen
was sitting across from his friend, on the edge of the chair, hoping to hear what he wanted.
"At first I did. But after
I got to know her, it changed. I fell in love with her. I want to see Paul. But considering the circumstances, I think it's
best we don't see each other." Mark was staring at Glen with a touch of sadness in his voice.
"And how does she feel
about you?" Glen had to know for Paul's sake.
'She only feels friendship." Mark answered, leaning back into the chair
looking up to the ceiling, as if searching. Now Glen was feeling bad for both of his friends. He could see Mark was hurt.
"I'm
going to be in town for a few days and then I have to leave. May be we can do something later on." Glen told him where he
would be staying and left. Neither had seen the figure on the back porch, sitting in the lounging chair. And heard everything
they said.
Chapter Thirteen
Glenn sat in his room, thinking about the conversation with Mark. And
about what he was going to do to keep his friends from getting hurt anymore than they already had been. little did he know
his wishes were about to be answered.
A knock at his door, jolted him out of his thoughts. He left his seat to see
who it could be. He looked through the peephole and opening the door beckon the stranger in. He offered them a seat. They
sat and stared at him momentarily before introducing themselves.
“You don’t know me, but my name is Sharon.
Jeanine is a very close friend of mind. She’s the sister I never had. If she is in a situation that may cause her to
get hurt, then I want know.” She was looking into Glenn’s eyes as if they were windows she was searching through.
“What
are you talking about?” Glenn asked trying to keep Mark’s confidence.
“You can stop right now! I
was lounging on the back porch and heard the whole conversation. I don’t want Jeanine hurt through all this.“
She leaned forward in her seat, glaring at him very seriously.
“I remember Mr. Bearer from his stay at the hospital and knew about
his feelings for her. She wouldn’t listen to me when I tried to tell her. After he left, she started to receive flowers
faithfully every Tuesday. Then Mark showed up. A secret admirer was sending them, she assumed they were from Mark. He hasn’t
acknowledged he has sent her any flowers and she hasn’t said anything thinking this is a game he wants to play.”
“OMIGOSH!”
She suddenly burst out. “What if it’s Paul who has been sending her flowers and not Mark?” She looked towards
Glenn with eyes and mouth wide opened. Glenn returned the expression.
“Only one way to find out! Call him and
asked.” Glenn went to the phone and made the call.
“Paul! It’s Glenn. I was thinking of a way that
you may be able to impress Jeanine. How’s about sending her some roses to soften her up a little bit before you make
your appearance?” He was hoping to hear the right response.
BINGO!!!!!
“Well!! If I tell you something,
promise me you want tell Mark?” Paul asked.
“Yes I promise.” He glanced over to Sharon, as she stood
next to him, fingers crossed. She was trying to listen in on what Paul was about to reveal.
“Okay! Here it goes.
I’ve been sending her long-stemmed roses for the last several months, every week, signing it from a secret admirer.”
Paul saying with a hint of sadness in his voice.
Sharon let out a scream and quickly covered her mouth, as Glenn gave
her an stern looked, hoping Paul didn’t hear her. He didn’t. Glenn finish talking to his friend and hung up.
“I’m
sorry! I just always felt it wasn’t Mark sending the flowers. And finally hearing my suspicions confirmed........”
She gazed over at Glenn and saw he wasn’t angry but deep in thought.
She went to him and gently put her hand
on his. He turned to her with such sadness in his eyes. he was a large man compared to her 5’3” height. And yet,
they had an common ground. Friends they wanted to help. She gave his hand a gently squeeze, letting him know he wasn’t
alone. Together they began to figure out a plan.
Chapter Fourteen
Glenn hand finished his visit with Mark. He had to go back
to attend to some business before returning to the ring. Sharon and him, had struck up a interesting ‘friendship’
With Glenn gone, Mark was missing being in the ring. He still had a few weeks before his return.
One day in particular.
Jeanine came in totally exhausted. Sharon made her, her favorite dish and told her to get comfy for the night. Mark had been
out all day on his bike. When he came in, she told him she a had prepared a special meal and was glad he had made it back
in time to join them. After stuffing themselves, Mark and Jeanine retired to the living room at Sharon’s urging, under
their protest. They wanted to at least wash the dishes, since she had cooked such a delicious meal. She wasn’t having
it.
“So Mark. When do you think you will be going back?” She asked knowing he had been restless of late.
“Well!
Vince wants me to take my time, not wanting a repeat of what happened the last time. So I’m looking at a several weeks.”
He answered. He seemed different since Glenn’s visit.
“Well the weeks will roll by very fast and you will
soon by back in your element. I know you miss it and this has been very hard on you.” She watched him move to the window
and stared out. She knew he wanted to ask her something, but was afraid of the answer. He got up his nerve turning to her.
“Jeanine........”
He wasn’t able to finish.
“Wooooo!” Am I tired. Oh yes! Tonight is Monday. RAW is coming on! I promised
Glenn I would watch, since I had never seen him wrestle. Mark why don’t you and Jeanine join me? Pleeaassee?!!”
She pleaded batting her big brown eyes at Mark, causing him to laugh as only she had been able to do. They couldn’t
turn down the one who had given them such good nourishment. Besides, Mark wanted to see what was going on in the WWF.
The
time for Raw had come. Sharon had made some popcorn and waited in anticipation to see Glenn inaction. They watched the sow
with Mark commenting on different wrestlers. And then the main event came, as they watched this McMahon-Hemsley regime or
something doing their dirty deeds. Then there was something happening at the top of the ramp. The fans were going wild, as
they looked at a man standing acknowledging the crowd.
Paul Bearer had returned!!! He turned and beckon for someone,
out came Kane/Glenn heading for the ring. All in the ring scattered, except for a few. But the most important thing, while
the events of Raw were unfolding, was the reaction of Jeanine when she saw Paul. She called out his name and stood there with
her eyes as big as saucers, mouth hanging opened. Sharon stared at her friend as she watched Paul on the TV. And she knew
this was the man Jeanine loved. Sharon turned to Mark as he saw Jeanine move closer to the TV and laid her hand on Paul’s
face, holding it there.
“Paul!!! He looks so good. Doesn’t he?” She wasn’t expecting an answer,
she was just making an observation. She never saw the pain on Mark’s face or when he left to go to his room. Sharon
did and followed him.
“Mark! Let me in, now!” She knew was pushing it.
“Go away Sharon! I’m
not in the mood.” He was sitting on the bed with his head in his hands.
“Okay! Fine! I’m going to
just sit right here until you open this DAMN DOOR!!!” She sat down, leaning against the door, making little noises so
he would know she was still there. She can be overbearing when she wanted to be.
She felt herself falling backwards
into his room, as the door swung open. She found herself looking up at Mark’s face as he stood over her glaring down.
She quickly turned onto her stomach scrambled to her feet and walked pass him trying to look dignified. And as hurt as Mark
was, he had to laugh. ‘She’s a real piece of work’ he thought.
Chapter Fifteen
Mark had a
lot of respect for this Sharon. She had always treated him kindly and valued anything she had to say. She was sitting on his
bed, patting her hand on the space beside her for him to come and sit. He did as she asked.
“Mark you know me!
I don’t beat around the bush, so here it goes. I overheard Glenn and you talking, when he came to visit you. It was
an accident. Anyway, I spoke to him and we love all of you. We want everyone to be happy. But we realize the only way that
can come about is a little pain has to be involved. Such as tonight.” She paused taking in a deep breath as she laid
one of her hands on his enormous one.
“I have suspected for the longest she loved Paul. It happened with his
stay at the hospital. She tried to denied these feelings. That;]’s why she continued her involvement with you. Paul
and you were connected. One day you show up, then roses and notes from a secret admirer. What else could she do but get caught
up in a lot of emotions.” She looked into his confused eyes at the mention of roses and notes. She knew he wanted to
say something.
“ROSES! Wh-what roses? I never sent her any roses.” He said in wonderment.
“I
know you didn’t. But she doesn’t.” She stared at him.
“She thinks I’m the secret admirer?”
He stood up and began to pace back and forth, trying to figure out who would be sending the roses and notes.
Sharon
knew what was going through his head. And with the change of expression on his face, she knew he had come to realization of
who the secret admirer had been. Eyes on hers, he asked and answered his own question.
“PAUL!! It’s him
isn’t it?!! He’s been sending her the roses and notes.” He asked coming to sit next to her once again.
“For
the last several months!” She answered him becoming more concerned with how he was taking this news.
“He
feels THAT strongly about her?” He asked and received his answer with a nod of her head. He put his head in his hands,
as she rubbed his back comforting him.
“Yes, he does. He has even slimmed down for her, because she told him
she wanted him to take care of himself.” She smiled as he looked up to her in a surprise expression.
“And
what better way then to show how much he cared for her then to lose the weight so she wouldn’t worry about his health.
He had planned to surprise her by asking her out. But then he saw you and her kiss.” She watched his face go through
several changes with this new revelation.
“I know about her past and the pain she had to endure. I promised
myself I would not ever cause her any pain.” After an pause, he continued.
“Look! I’m going to leave
tomorrow while she’s at work. And Sharon, don’t you dare say anything. Or you will meet the ‘Lord of Darkness.’
He is one person you don’t want to encounter. Ask Mr. Kingsley.” With that said, he gave her an affectionate hug
and kissed her on the forehead, sending her out of his room, as he made his plans.
She didn’t know much about
this ‘Lord of Darkness’, but from what it sounded, he isn’t anyone she wanted to meet. ‘Mmmmm!!”
she thought. She could ask Glenn.
“Good luck, Mark!!” She said softly as she turned and walked away from
his door.
Chapter Sixteen
They next day found Jeanine and Sharon
rushing out of the house to get to work. As Jeanine drove out of the driveway, Sharon looked up to Mark’s window, thinking
she had caught a glimpse of him peeping out, as they left. But shrugged it off when she didn’t se him on second glance.
She was hoping everything worked out for the best. They arrived at the hospital and agreed to meet for lunch as they went
they’re separate ways. Sharon made it to her office and made a phone call.
Mark never went to sleep. He heard
when the women had left and moved away from the window when he saw Sharon look to his window. He had been thinking how his
world had come crashing around him. But he also knew he had brought this on himself. He knew Paul had a crush on this woman,
but wasn’t aware he was in love with her. This knowledge had changed everything. He loved Paul, he had been the constants
in is life. Even when the storylines had them out with each, other they had remained friends. And if its in is power to make
him happy, he would.
But the biggest surprise, was Jeanine’s reaction to Paul when she saw him on the TV. Everything
was making sense now. That’s the reason she wouldn’t go all the way with him, even though they had come very close
many times. She was the type of woman who would be true to her love. It was going to be Paul or no one. Something good had
to come out of this situation. Mark gave one last glance around the place he had called home for such a short while and left,
closing the door behind him as the phone rung. He heard it, but continued on to his car.
Glenn was still lying in bed
when the phone rung. I was Sharon. She told him about Jeanine’s reaction to seeing Paul on the TV. And how Mark stormed
out of the room with her close on his heels. And how she tried to reason with him and comfort him at the same time.
He
listened with a bittersweet feeling. He became very concerned with Mark and decided he would go spend some time with him.
He knew Mark was heading for Houston and would meet him there. He told her of his plan and told her he would call her in a
few days.
She told him about Mark’s mentioning of the ‘Lord of Darkness’ and asked about him. Glenn
laughed and explained to her all about him, figuring Mark had mention his ring persona as something of an playful threat and
thinking it funny the way she said she didn’t want to ever meet him.
“Oh Sharon! When this is all over.”
He paused for a moment, causing her to take in a breath as she anticipated his next comment. “How about Kane coming
to meet you?! I promise....you want be disappointed.” Then he gave this devilish laugh. She express her delight to meet
Kane, since she had seen him on the TV and thought how nice Glenn’s ring persona looked. They said their goodbyes, as
Glenn hung up and made a phone call. There was no answer at the other end. He made on more call and connected.
Jeanine
was sitting in the employees lounge, when Sharon walked over.
“So Jeanine, I didn’t get to talk to you
lat night. What’s with you and this Paul person? You know you hurt Mark very much.” She stated as she watched
her friend very closely.
“Hurt Mark! Whatever do you mean??” Jeanine was a little confused with Sharon’s
statement.
“Jeanine! Don’t you realize what he feels for you? And look how you did him when you saw Paul
on the TV?” Jeanine had to realize her part in this confusion, too.
“You knew when Mark came along what
you were doing. You used him for a substitute, stringing him along. It wasn’t fair to him. Things need to be made right
before anyone can move on with their lives.” She was direct but gentle with her friend.
“You don’t
understand! I do love Mark. And I love Paul also. I don’t want to hurt either one. But in my heart I do know who I want.
But the other will be hurt and I don’t think I can bear to see that.” She had begun to cry.
Sharon decide
it was time for them to go home. She informed their supervisor they would be gone for the remaining of the day, left for home.
When they made it home, Jeanine went to Mark’s room to talk to him. She went to knock at his door and saw the door opened,
she entered to see all his things were gone. She turned to see Sharon standing in the doorway with an knowing look.
Jeanine
fell on Mark’s bed and began to cry out for him hysterically. Sharon came to her holding her dear friend tightly, sighing
deeply. ‘The pain...now for the healing.’ She thought.
Chapter Seventeen
Mark made it back home. Not realizing
how much he had missed his place, Mark was glad to be back home. He went into the garden, his place of solitude, thinking
over the last several months. His housekeeper came to the door to inform him that he had a telephone call. He wondered who
could be calling him. I could be either be Sharon or Jeanine, in which neither he would want to talk to.
And then they
could have called Glenn, he didn’t mind talking to him. He needed him about right now. He picked up the phone with the
usual salutation and stiffened up when the voice on the other line answered.
Paul was in his room preparing to leave,
when his phone rung. It was Glenn saying he needed to see to talk to him. Paul told him they could have breakfast together,
since there was time before they had to leave for the next show.
During breakfast, Glenn told Paul about the events
of the night before. He told him he had tried to catch Mark before he left, but wasn’t able to catch him in time. Paul
was a little concern about Mark, he knew how he felt when he thought he had lost Jeanine. Glenn said he was going down to
see him after the next PPV. Paul felt that wouldn’t be soon enough.
The two finished the breakfast in silence
and went to their rooms, preparing for their departure. Paul stared at the phone thinking, should he make the call he should
have made several months ago. If he had made the call, maybe no one would be hurting at this moment.
He picked up
the phone and dialed the number.
“Hello?” Marked said.
“Hello Deadman.!” Paul was a
little nervous. Not quite sure of what Mark’s reaction was going to be.
“Hey Paul! How are you doing?”
Mark was just as nervous to hearing from his old friend again.
“I’m doing well!” He answered rubbing
his hand down his face.
“I saw you on the tube last night. And must say, you looked good!” Mark was trying
you cover the nervousness. It was good to hear his friends voice again.
“So, Vince got you back, huh? How does
it feel to be back with the WWF?”
“It feels good! And the fans are great! Being with Glenn makes it even
better.” Paul didn’t say what was in his heart. ‘It would be even much better to have you back with us.’
But some how, Mark knew.
“I’m returning in a few weeks with an new angle. What, they haven’t figured
it out yet. Maybe they will have us all together again. Who knows?” Mark was feeling Paul out.
“Yes! Who
knows? But I need to talk to you Son! It’s very important. You think you can spare an old man some of your time.”
Paul felt it was now or never.
“Why sure Paul! It would be good to see you again.” Mark was finally letting
Paul know what he was feeling inside. Old friendships never die.
“When?” Mark asked.
“How
about tomorrow. I’ll be in between shows and can fly down tonight, be there in the morning. Paul was glad Mark told
him he missed him.
This will make it easier for him to say what he needed to say. The two men said their goodbyes and
hung up, both very satisfied that the hardest part had passed. Mar planned for his friend.
Chapter Eighteen
Paul and Glenn had finished their segment
of the show. Paul told Glenn he would meet him at the next show, he had unfinished business to take care of and left in a
rented car for the airport. Glenn wondered. He made a call.
“Hell.” Sharon answered.
“Hi.
Are you preparing to meet KANE? He certainly wants to meet you.” Glenn was in a playful mood.
“You tell
Kane, I’ll meet him, but it’s you I want to be with.” He was speechless. Sharon had never told him she felt
this way.
“Ummm! Oh, he understands that and so do I.” He said finally snapping himself back.
“Good!
Now what have you calling?” With all kidding aside she knew he had something on his mind.
“Has Paul been
in touch with Jeanine in the last couple of days? He knows about what happened the other night and left out of here saying
he had some unfinished business to take care of. I assumed it was Jeanine.” He said.
“No! She hasn’t
said a word and judging by the way she’s been moping around here for the last few days since Mark left, I would say
I doubt it seriously.” She sounded very concerned for her friend.
You know what she told me! She loves both.
She knows who she wants to be with, but doesn’t want to hurt the other one. But that can’t be helped. She has
to chose, so they can go on with their lives.”
“Not to mention our lives.” He mumbled.
“What
was that about lives? I couldn’t hear what you said.” She only caught the last word of his sentence.
“I
said yes, they need to get a long with their lives.” Glenn didn’t want to repeat what he had said.
“Glenn!
What if he called Mark and went to see him?” Glenn was thinking about what Sharon just said.
“Well if
he did! Why didn’t he tell me? I don’t think so and then again! Whatever it is, he’ll let me know sooner
or later. I’m going to let you go. And see you soon.” He said in his rasped Kane voice.
Sharon laughed
at the prospect of meeting Kane and what he had in stored for her. Glenn smiled after he hung up the phone. He never planned
on getting anything going with Sharon. It just snuck up on both of them. Now he had something to look forward to once they
straighten out this mess with their friends.
And then he wondered. Could Paul be going to Mark?
Chapter Nineteen
Mark had paced back and forth, since the
call from Paul, telling him what time he would be arriving. So much had gone on between them, but he had hoped they could
mend the fences. A knock at the door could be heard as the housekeeper goes to answer it. It’s Paul, she tells him where
to find Mark. He enters the room, the old friends awkwardly stare at each other, not knowing how to get pass this. Mark breaks
the ice.
“Come in Paul! Have a seat. You know this has always been a home away from home to you.” This
was true. Paul had spent a lot of time there. It had become a second home.
“Thank you Mark!” He said as
he sat in his favorite chair.
“I have some things I need to say. And I don’t want you to interrupt me until
you have heard everything I have said.” Paul was very nervous and speaking very fast, in that shrilling voice he has
when nervous.
“Sure Paul! Whatever you say.” Mark could see this wasn’t going to be as easy as they
thought.
“Several months ago I met Jeanine. I didn’t think caring about her would cause so much pain.”
Mark could tell he was very sad as he spoke.
“I didn’t know you were going to develop feelings for her.
I thought you understood how I was feeling for her.” He paused.
“Maybe some how I could have prevented
this situation. If only I had not let my ego get in the way. I could have told her how I felt sooner.” He stood and
began to walk, thinking of his next words.
“Now Jeanine, you and I are hurt. This whole thing is a mess. I have
known you too long to let anything or anyone to come between us. So I’m steeping aside so you two can be together.”
He said with deep sadness, as tears began to form in his eyes. Overwhelmed, he went and sat in the chair, head in hands.
“Paul
no! You can’t do that. She would die. I know she loves you, I love you both and want to see you happy. So please Paul!
Don’t just walk away and leave her.” Mark walked over to him, trying to plead with the older man. He could see
he had made up his mind. He had to do something quick.
“Look Paul! Haven’t you learned anything fro al
of this? Shouldn’t we be allowing her to make this decision? We can’t keep doing this, we owe her that much,”
Paul thought about what Mark had said and after a while of deep thought. He decided to do as he asked.
After giving
themselves some time to reminiscence, they said their goodbyes. They both knew no matter what, someone was going to get hurt,
in the end. But glad their friendship had survived.
Glenn had broken his hand and was going to be out for a few weeks.
He came down to visit Mark, they were going to be together on the upcoming storyline. Mark would make his appearance on the
next PPV and Glenn would come back a few weeks later. Paul had taken some time off.
Glenn knew since he had left Jeanine,
Mark hadn’t spoken to her. He didn’t want to get into it with him, knowing he had to be hurting, not to have called
her. Sharon told him that Jeanine had taken some time off from work. She had become very concerned about her friend. She decided
to do something about it.
Sharon called Glenn and told him to get in touch with Paul and Mark. They needed to come
to the house, Jeanine needed them, he did. She told Jeanine Mark and Paul would be coming to the house and she needed to get
herself together. The next day Glenn, Mark and Paul arrived, giving Jeanine enough time to pull herself together. She wanted
so badly to put an end to this problem.
She knew who she wanted and the other would have to understand. She felt with
the one his love was more of an infatuation. Whereas the other loved and wanted her as much as she did him. And she knew
that would be a lasting relationship. She took Paul and Mark into the study. Glenn held Sharon closely, as they remain seated
on the couch, waiting for their friends to emerge from the room.
“Mark I have grown to love you very much in
the time we have spent together. And I know you have feelings for me. Paul, I love you also. Every since your stay in the
hospital. And I know now you also feel for me.” She paused as she walked to look out the window.
“I know
the difference in feelings. One has an infatuation for me, while the other loves me dearly. One love will last down the years
through all the hard times and good times, while the other will soon flicker out. That’s why I have made my choice.
I hope when we leave out of here, we will remain close.” Jeanine walked over to the man she loved, holding him close
and kissing him gently on his lips, telling him how much she loved him and wanted to spend they rest of her life with him.
He
grabbed her up in his arms, kissing her long and hard. Thankful he would be having this remarkable woman in his life. Whilst
the other sunk in his seat, wishing he would have been able to reassure her of his feelings.
But her choice had been
made, it was time to move on. Glenn and Sharon stood up, as their friends walked out of the room. They held each other closely
as they could see everything was going to be alright.
Chapter Twenty
Mark went back to on tour with the WWF
as scheduled. On this night Glenn and also returned. The fans were ecstatic to see the two brothers finally together after
so many months. Two pairs of eyes watched them from their home, with smiles on their faces.
“Well, I guess you’re
happy Vince listened to you after all!” Jeanine said as she sat next to her husband.
“Yes. I’m very
glad to see them together. Look at the reaction of the fans.” Paul held his wife close in his arms.
“Let’s
call it and night, my Love.” She kissed her Paul lovingly. hugging him affectionately.
She knew she had made
the right choice. They made their way to their bedroom, she wish Mark could find someone in his life and truly know love.
Glenn and Sharon had already taken care of that matter.
After the show, an reluctant Mark had joined Glenn and Sharon
for dinner. She had invited one of her friends from work. The young woman had been interested in Mark since she saw him at
the hospital. But thinking he and Jeanine were together, she didn’t persist.
Seeing him again at Paul and Jeanine’s
wedding, she asked Sharon about him. As they waited for their guess to arrive, Mark kept making his little negative remarks.
Saying, she probably was a bimbo, who knew he was an wrestler, who wanted to love him and leave him. If you knew what he meant.
Glenn and Sharon asked him to be nice.
Sharon saw her friend coming into the restaurant and waved her in their direction.
Mark gave an exasperated grunt. Sharon poked him gently in the side, as an warning to behave.
“Mark this is Trina.
Trina this is Mark.” Sharon giving her formal introductions. Mark slowly got up to shake her hand and was speechless.
She
was nothing like he had expected. She was a very striking young woman. A little on the heavy side, but very pretty. No make-up,
just a slight touch of gloss, to highlight her delicious lips, he thought.
As she sat and conversed, he could see
she was very intelligent. He could see she was very shy. Whenever she would catch him staring at her she would blush. He liked
her, very much so. She was the type you took home to mother. Sharon and Glenn were very pleased with themselves. They knew
Trina was just the right lady for Mark.
Glenn and Sharon smiled at each other, as they watched Mark assisted Trina
out of her chair and left to escort her to her car, making plans for another day. He never once took his eyes from her, as
they made their way out the restaurant. Sharon knew Mark would treat her right. Because after all, she was very much like
Jeanine.
